Gloucestershire & friends Spoon Club

Spoon club rabble

The Gloucestershire Spoon Club runs on the first Sunday of each month at The Woodyard near Tetbury – see directions below.

We have a WhatsApp group for announcements and chat, let me know if you want to be added to the list.

Spoon Club is a gathering of spoon carvers for fun and skills sharing. There’s is no formal teaching and you are responsible for your own safety. We expect that you’re proficient enough to carve safely independently – I will have a basic first aid kit on site. Please bring your own tools. We usually have some spoon wood, at the moment there’s some nice cherry and maybe some elm and alder though it may be a bit dry by now. However we gratefully accept any contribution of potential spoon wood that you bring along. Thx.

Who knows what the weather might be like but best have layers and wear sensible footwear and a sun hat or wooly hat depending on the time of year. The Woodyard has open sided barns that keep the rain and sometimes the wind off us but essentially we’re outside. We have some chopping blocks, though not many to stand up at, some chairs though you might want to bring your own camp chair to sit on, a fire pit, field kitchen and a compost loo. Scroll down this page for directions to the site, try to lift share and park where we ask when you arrive, the parking area is to the left as you come through the gate into the yard.

Food and drink

We’ll provide hot soups and bread for lunch – bring you own wooden bowl and spoon (we will have some to share too, so don’t worry). I’m sure some folks will bring cake or biscuits to share. We’ll have a range of teas and coffee with milk and oat milk and the kettle will be on at regular intervals.

How to find us

Colly Farm Woodyard, Cherington Lane, Tetbury, Gloucestershire. There is no postcode for the Woodyard.

This link to What Three Words gives you the exact location and links to google maps or other satnav apps
https://what3words.com/coasters.sculpting.pointer

The nearest postcode is GL8 8SE which gets you pretty near, however don’t turn off Cherrington Lane down the track to this post code. The Woodyard is a little along Cherrington Lane, in the Tetbury direction, on the other side of the road.

My phone number is 07768 418960 – give me a ring if you’re lost and I might be able to help, depending exactly how lost you are of course.

I’ll leave a yellow marker (an old coat on a stick) right by the gate into the yard so you can spot us easily. Pull into the yard and we’ll show you where to park, on the left as you come through the gate.

If you’re coming from Tetbury: Head out of Tetbury on the A433 towards Cirencester. Go straight on at the by Tetbury Audi garage and continue on the A433 for about half a mile, then take the first left on to Cherrington Lane, it’s signed to Cherrington and Cherrington Forge. The Woodyard is half a mile on the right hand side.

If you’re coming on the A433 from Cirencester you’re looking for the second right hand turn to Cherrington. If you miss it and reach the roundabout on the edge of Tetbury (with the Audi garage) go around the roundabout back the way you’ve just come and follow the instructions above. Don’t worry you’re very close.

If you’re coming from Cherrington along the lane follow signs for Tetbury. Stay on Cherrington Lane, watch out for the place where there’s a fork in the road, you want to follow the right hand fork towards Tetbury and not go left (which looks srtaight on but just goes to the A433). You go past Cherrington Forge (G.L.C & R Williams) on your right and then the road narrows and goes through a dip with trees over the road. After this we are just a few hundred yards on the left.
