Spoon club rabble

The Gloucestershire Spoon Club runs on the first Sunday of each month at The Woodyard near Tetbury – see directions below. Please get in touch with me so I know you’re coming along – although we can accommodate a reasonable number of people it’s difficult if folks just rock up unexpectedly – after all we might run out of biscuits.

DATES: Sunday 1st Sept – at Jamie’s farm, Sunday 6th Oct back at the Woodyard – 11am until 5pm.

Note: Sun 1st Sept is at Jamie Carr’s and not at The Woodyard. The address is 1 Westmill Cottages, Watchfield, SN6 8TH

Spoon Club is a gathering of spoon carvers for fun and skills sharing. There’s is no formal teaching and you are responsible for your own safety. We expect that you’re proficient enough to carve safely independently – I will have a basic first aid kit on site. The day runs from 11am to 5pm or so.

I’ll be there early from 10.30ish with a few folks from Stroud, to get the kettle on. Who knows what the weather might be like but best have layers you can put on or take off and wear stout boots. The Woodyard has open sided barns that keep the rain and sometimes the wind off us but essentially we’re outside. There’s plenty of wood, lots of chopping blocks and some chairs, fire pit, field kitchen and compost loo. Please bring your own tools, though I will have a few for borrowing. Scroll down this page for directions to the site, try to lift share and park where we ask when you arrive – we need to squeeze in.

Food and drink

Please bring a bowl and cup and of course a spoon to eat with. I’ll usually vegan soup or stew and bread for lunch. If you can bring some cake or biscuits that’s great but don’t worry if not. I’ll provide teas and coffee and milk and oat milk. I’ll ask for a small donation (like a couple of quid) to cover costs.

How to find us

Colly Farm Woodyard, Cherington Lane, Tetbury, Gloucestershire. There is no postcode for the Woodyard, the nearest postcode is GL8 8SE which gets you pretty near, however don’t turn off Cherrington Lane down the track to this post code. The Woodyard is a little along Cherrington Lane, in the Tetbury direction, on the other side of the road. Here’s a link to google maps showing the exact location – but written directions below are worth reading. My phone number is 07768 418960 – give me a ring if you’re lost and I might be able to help, depending exactly how lost you are of course.

I’ll leave a yellow marker (an old coat on a stick) right by the gate into the yard so you can spot us easily. Pull into the yard and we’ll show you where to park.

If you’re coming from Tetbury: Head out of Tetbury on the A433 towards Cirencester. Go straight on at the by Tetbury Audi garage and continue on the A433 for about half a mile, then take the first left on to Cherrington Lane, it’s signed to Cherrington and Cherrington Forge. The Woodyard is half a mile on the right hand side.

If you’re coming on the A433 from Cirencester you’re looking for the second right hand turn to Cherrington. If you miss it and reach the roundabout on the edge of Tetbury (with the Audi garage) go around the roundabout back the way you’ve just come and follow the instructions above. Don’t worry you’re very close.

If you’re coming from Cherrington along the lane follow signs for Tetbury. Stay on Cherrington Lane, watch out for the place where there’s a fork in the road, you want to follow the right hand fork towards Tetbury and not go left (which looks srtaight on but just goes to the A433). You go past Cherrington Forge (G.L.C & R Williams) on your right and then the road narrows and goes through a dip with trees over the road. After this we are just a few hundred yards on the left.
