Sun 11th Nov 2018 – Advanced course, eating spoons

This course is designed for adults only, you must be 18 or older to attend – unless you’ve made a specific arrangement with me.

To be held in the yurt at Days Cottage, Brookthorpe (just off A4173 between Stroud and Gloucester – postcode GL4 0UT).

Suitable for those who’ve carved before and want to improve. You may be self taught or have attended my beginners course or a similar course and have since been carving independently. You’ll get the most out of this course if you’ve carved a reasonable number of spoons – say 20 or more – and are looking to improve technique and understanding of tools, materials and design.

We’ll briefly recap safe carving technique and then look at axe technique in more detail and how to get a good finish with the knife and hook knife.

The main thing will be specific details of the design of a spoon that’s good to eat with. There will be plenty of time to practice your skills and make an eating spoon or two to take home.

You’ll most likely bring your own tools, those you use to carve with at home, We can look at sharpening if needed or you can borrow spare tools that I’ll have available on the day.

From: 9.45am to 5.00pm. Tea, coffee and flapjack provided. Bring a packed lunch. Full joining instructions will be emailed nearer the course date.
