Cotinus eating spoon #18
£35.00
Cotinus is also known as Smoke Bush or Venetian Sumac.
Length: 18cm (7 inches)
Bowl width: 4.8cm
Bowl length: 6cm
Finish: hemp seed oil
A right handed eating spoon with an ebonised handle. The handle has a slight hollow and a ripple to provide comfort and fun for your thumb.
Ebonising is done by painting with a solution of iron in vinegar, this reacts with the tannins in the wood to turn it black.
I had limited supply of Cotinus, they’re all either sold or for sale on this site – when they’re gone they’re gone.

Cherry wood eating spoon #1
Length: 17cm (6 1/2 inches)
Bowl width: 5cm
Bowl length: 7cm
Finish: hemp seed oil
This eating spoon is unusual for me having a slightly asymetrical bowl making it a right handed spoon. Cherry like this with some dark growth rings doesn’t come along very often.

Plum eating spoon #3
Length: 17cm (6 3/4 inches)
Bowl width: 4.7cm
Bowl length: 6.2cm
Finish: hemp seed oil
This is a wonderfully proportioned spoon and the side profile is particularly fine, you can’t see it in the photo but you’ll just have to believe me. It’s a spoon I carver some time ago and acted as the template for many that followed. The wood is very hard and silky smooth, it’s going to be a joy to eat with.

Lavaspoon – round bowl #4
Length: 17cm (6 3/4 inches)
Bowl width: 5.7cm
Bowl length: 5.7cm
Finish: hemp seed oil
A round bowl sycamore eating spoon or soup spoon with my special red and black milk paint finish, folks at Spoonfest called them lavaspoons and the name has stuck. This is a rare round one – I’ve only made about 4 or 5 of these all told. This one has a flat rim and is good for soup, shallow at the front of the bowl but quite deep in the middle.

Lavaspoon – round bowl #3
Length: 16.5cm (6 1/2 inches)
Bowl width: 5.5cm
Bowl length: 5.5cm
Finish: hemp seed oil
A round bowl sycamore eating spoon or soup spoon with my special red and black milk paint finish, folks at Spoonfest called them lavaspoons and the name has stuck. This is a rare round one – I’ve only made about 4 or 5 of these all told. This one has an extra special handle as it has 7 facets on the top surface, I usually only carve 5.
This has quite a deep bowl, better for eating soup and more liquid foods but would work OK for porridge.

Blackthorn eating spoon #2
Length: 15cm
Bowl width: 4.5cm
Bowl length: 5.6cm
Finish: hemp seed oil
This pretty little blackthorn spoon has a different shaped handle than I usually make, probably dictated by the knarly piece of balckthorn it was carved from. It’s got a small amount of softer wood in the bowl – that pale line through the dark heartwood – that’s why is a little bit cheaper than other spoons here. In my judgement this wont be a problem and there’s years of good sue to be had from it. Blackthorn is tough stuff.

Elm eating spoon #1
Length: 16.5cm (6 1/2 inches)
Bowl width: 4.7cm
Bowl length: 6cm

An elegant eating spoon from some radially cleft elm is delicate whilst also very strong. The elm dries very hard and should last many years of regular use.

Plum round bowl spoon #3

This round bowled plum spoon has a flat rim is a general purpose eating spoon and not a really deep bowl soup spoon like traditional round spoons, although you could eat soup with it of course. Facetted handle and back to the bowl. Plum is very hard and durable.
