Plum eating spoon #3

This is a wonderfully proportioned spoon and the side profile is particularly fine, you can’t see it in the photo but you’ll just have to believe me. It’s a spoon I carver some time ago and acted as the template for many that followed. The wood is very hard and silky smooth, it’s going to be a joy to eat with.

Bowl width: 5cm
Bowl length: 5.5cm

This spoon has a pronounced crank and a shallow round bowl with a flat rim. It’s a general purpose eating spoon and not a deep bowl soup spoon like traditional round spoons, although you could eat soup with it of course. Plum is very hard and durable.

Blackthorn eating spoon #2
Length: 15cm
Bowl width: 4.5cm
Bowl length: 5.6cm
Finish: hemp seed oil
This pretty little blackthorn spoon has a different shaped handle than I usually make, probably dictated by the knarly piece of balckthorn it was carved from. It’s got a small amount of softer wood in the bowl – that pale line through the dark heartwood – that’s why is a little bit cheaper than other spoons here. In my judgement this wont be a problem and there’s years of good sue to be had from it. Blackthorn is tough stuff.

Length: 16cm (6 1/4 inches)
Bowl width: 4.5cm
Bowl length: 6cm

This radial blackthorn spoon has an symmertic bowl making suitable for left or right handers. There’s a striking black line running down it between the darked heartwood and the pale sapwood. It’s got a facetted oval profile handle and some lovely dark red tones in th heartwood. Note that over time the red will most likely fade to a dark brown but it’ll still be gorgeous.

Lavaspoon – round bowl #3
Length: 16.5cm (6 1/2 inches)
Bowl width: 5.5cm
Bowl length: 5.5cm
Finish: hemp seed oil
A round bowl sycamore eating spoon or soup spoon with my special red and black milk paint finish, folks at Spoonfest called them lavaspoons and the name has stuck. This is a rare round one – I’ve only made about 4 or 5 of these all told. This one has an extra special handle as it has 7 facets on the top surface, I usually only carve 5.
This has quite a deep bowl, better for eating soup and more liquid foods but would work OK for porridge.

Wild plum eating spoon #2

Bowl width: 4.8cm
Bowl length: 6cm

The bowl and neck of this spoon, from the heart wood of wild plum or bullace, is such a gorgeous deep red brown colour. This wood is very hard and the bowl is silky smooth so it should eat like a dream.
