Plum wood is heavy and has great colour in the heart wood but for this you’ll need a section of trunk or a larger branch. Luckily my brother in law is a landscape gardener and sometimes has to prune or cut back overgrown and damaged fruit trees. It’s a nice surprise when I come home to find a branch of plum wood laying by workshop. Bullace and damson are also in the same family and share the pink, red and purple coloured heartwood and get included in this category.
