Plum wood is heavy and has great colour in the heart wood but for this you’ll need a section of trunk or a larger branch. Luckily my brother in law is a landscape gardener and sometimes has to prune or cut back overgrown and damaged fruit trees. It’s a nice surprise when I come home to find a branch of plum wood laying by workshop. Bullace and damson are also in the same family and share the pink, red and purple coloured heartwood and get included in this category.

    Wild plum eating spoon #8

    Length: 17.5cm (7 inches)
    Bowl width: 4.5cm
    Bowl length: 6cm
    Finish: hemp seed oil

This light coloured bullace or wild plum spoon has darker heartwood on one side and distinctive speckling through the bowl. The wood is very hard and durable, it’s going to be a joy to eat with. It’s a bit cheaper as it’s an old spoon that turned up recently when I tidied my workshop.
